Why we matter

Art creates a different way into ecological action.

Hawaiʻi’s island ecologies are connected from ridge to reef. Pesticide pollution, altered landscapes and invasive species disrupt watersheds, affecting coral reefs downstream.

People are often asked to learn, clean up or change their behavior—but less often invited to help shape the cultural response. Artecosystem creates that space.

Our artist-led projects transform ecological concern, material reuse and research into shared making, public artworks and lasting relationships of care. This makes ecological advocacy accessible to all and cross-pollinates creativity and knowledge across communities.
